The fate of Viktor Sokolov remains unclear. While Ukraine had claimed on Monday to have killed him, the Russian Ministry of Defense published on Tuesday an image showing the commander of the Black Sea fleet participating in a video conference.
In the photo, the official appears on a large screen, alongside other senior military officials attending a meeting chaired by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. A statement, which did not mention the officer's name, said the meeting took place on Tuesday.
The Kremlin says it has no information
Also on Tuesday, the Kremlin said it had no information on whether or not the commander would die. "There is no information about this from the Defense Ministry," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
