The State Prosecutor's Office is expected to file an indictment on Thursday against a Brazilian couple arrested on suspicion of smuggling about two kilograms of cocaine into Israel in packages they hid inside. Police identified and arrested the two earlier this month.
The couple was arrested upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport and brought in for interrogation, and an initial search revealed 150 grams of drugs that the suspect had slipped on her body. The two suspects were brought to the hospital, where they underwent an X-ray, which revealed that there were an additional 950 grams of drugs in the woman's abdomen, divided into 48 doses, while the man hid a kilogram of drugs divided into 75 doses. The SWAT investigators waited at the hospital until all the prohibited substance was ejected and brought the two men for further interrogation.

About a month ago, the State Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against three young men in their twenties from Petah Tikva for importing cocaine from Peru. The indictment states that a package containing the drug, estimated to be worth one million shekels, was melted into a viscous waxy substance and attached to a carpet sent from South America to a Petah Tikva resident.
Peruvian police caught up with the smuggling attempt even before he left the country, and sent a local policeman to Israel who arrived with the package and carpet. The police set a trap for the suspects, in which they sent one of them a rug similar to the one they were trying to smuggle. The main defendant in the case opened the carpet and discovered a police surveillance device inside. He fled the scene and was arrested by police a few days later.
