BRUSSELS, 27 SEPT - "The hybrid attacks against our member countries are another reason why we need a rapid political agreement on two key proposals: the Pact for Migration and Asylum, to have common rules in the EU, and the revision of the "EU" multiannual budget which provides for a supplement" of funds "for migration". This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a press point with the new Latvian Prime Minister, Evika Silina, speaking of the "cynical and inhuman exploitation of migrants by Belarus".
Recalling the European Commission's proposal, now being examined by national governments and the European Parliament, to introduce a new funding line in the review of the EU's multiannual budget 2021-2027, with 50 billion euros "as support", von der Leyen said "EU financial support remains a lifeline for Ukraine" and is "what Ukraine needs now and for the future: for reconstruction, recovery and reforms on its path to the EU".
