The president of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station of Naples, Professor Chris Bowler, will become a member of the Accademia dei Lincei. The official nomination and the awarding of the badges will take place on November 10th during the ceremony for the opening of the next academic year 2023-2024. This is stated in a note.
Bowler "has joined the category 'Evolutionary Biology and Genetics' as a corresponding partner for his marine research expertise," the note said, noting that he is also "the first member of the Academy to be an expert in marine biology."
"I am proud of this achievement and thrilled to receive such a coveted recognition," said Bowler. My task is certainly challenging, given how much the management of the sea, not only as a resource, but as a wealth of biodiversity is just as much. It is a heritage of humanity that we must know and preserve for ourselves and future generations. The research carried out by my laboratory in Paris and that of the laboratories at the SZN allow me to acquire a series of data of the highest scientific level on a daily basis to share and make available to the mission of the prestigious Accademia dei Lincei, which has placed great trust in me,' he concludes.
