A data center will be built in over 80,000 square meters of the Tassullo company's mine, in Trentino. Dolomite tunnels that already house underground cells for apple storage, sparkling wine fermentation and other applications where constant temperature is a key factor. Unique at national level and among the very few realized in the world, the project falls within the scope of the PNRR and has a duration of 36 months. The total cost of 50.2 million is financed by public resources for 18.4 million and private resources for about 31.8 million. The largest item of the investment (about 18 million) will be reserved for the construction of technical plants in the mine. The return on investment is expected within 15 years. To carry out the project, the Trentino Data Mine srl was established.
The public-private partnership sees the University of Trento as the implementing subject, which also has the responsibility and scientific guidance, and a temporary grouping of companies, selected through a public tender, formed by Covi Costruzioni, Dedagroup, Gpi and Isa. The public-private company will take care of the design and construction of the infrastructure, as well as the acquisition and equipment of machinery and equipment for the data center and its management. The goal is to ensure that the data center becomes a European reference point for digital innovation, especially on the topics of health, artificial intelligence, IT and financial security, management of large amounts of data.
