American music icon Cher has been accused of hiring four men to kidnap her own son, Elijah Blue Allman, while he was in a New York hotel with his wife, according to newly unsealed court documents.
The allegations, according to Variety, appear in a statement signed by Allman's wife ---and Cher's daughter-in-law--- Marie Angela King, on Dec. 4 in a Los Angeles court, and are part of the couple's divorce case. According to reports, the alleged kidnapping was because Cher was seeking to admit her son to a rehabilitation center.
According to King, quoted by Variety, she and her husband were trying to reconcile. They allegedly spent 12 days together in New York leading up to their Nov. 30 anniversary, when the kidnapping is said to have occurred. Allman filed for divorce in November 2021.

"One of the four men who took him told me they were hired by the petitioner's mother," King said in the statement, quoted in a report by The Rolling Stone.
"I currently do not know the welfare or whereabouts of my husband... I am very worried about him," the document continues. "Since August 2022, I have been told that I cannot see or speak to [Allman], who is currently locked up in an undisclosed treatment facility."
In Allman's absence, Entertainment Tonight reported that the singer asked King to leave the house where she lived with her husband.
"I was not allowed to retrieve all my belongings from our home and main residence," ET quoted King as saying. "I wasn't even given the opportunity to inventory our assets."

According to the Daily Mail, King said the Oscar winner was concerned about the health of her son, who has been open in the past about his problems with addictions.
USA Today quotes Cher's son as saying he started using drugs at age 11. "It's what was done, what everyone did," the digital newspaper quoted Allman as saying, who went on to detail that he was close to having several overdoses.
