Weddings are supposed to be the most beautiful day in the life of a loving couple. For the guests of a British wedding, the wedding ceremony was now one thing above all: expensive.
Munich – A bride and groom wanted to celebrate a particularly expensive wedding in Great Britain. On Reddit, a friend of an invited guest reported the incidents. To attend the wedding, a whopping 2300 euros should be paid.
2300 euros: bride and groom demand a large sum for participation in wedding
The Reddit user told about the wedding invitation to his friend Jack as well as his girlfriend. The invitation came from Jack's good friend Jeff and his future wife Sophie. Just a few months after Jack and his girlfriend agreed to the wedding, the couple received an email response: "Thank you for the feedback on our wedding, and thank you for helping us get the wedding of our dreams off the ground."
Jack read exactly what that meant at the end of the email. There was a link that was described with "Click here to pay". Jack assumed that this was just the honeymoon financial aid and didn't pay any further attention to the link. After a few days, when he looked to see where the link was going, he couldn't believe his eyes. After the click, the wedding guest was asked to pay almost 2000 British pounds – to attend the wedding.
Despite payment of almost 2000 pounds: drinks had to be paid extra at the wedding
At first, the wedding guest thought that the request for payment must be a scam. However, after getting in touch with the wedding venue, he realized that he really should pay the £2000. Because the groom meant a lot to him, Jack decided to pay the almost 2300 euros – his entire savings. He decided to drink and eat as much as possible at the wedding so that it could be worthwhile for him.
At the wedding, the next shock followed: The drinks were not included in the 2300 euros. The bill then grew again, because each guest had to pay another 230 euros tip for the location. After comparing the cost of the location with the number of guests, Jack came to the conclusion that the wedding had remained free of charge for the bride and groom. In the comments, Reddit users were horrified. "No matter who would have invited me, with an invoice of 2300 euros I would have simply canceled again," was the top comment.
In India, one bride even cancelled the wedding after the groom complained too much about the feast. Another ran away from her arranged wedding to marry another man.
