Flag of the Torah Chairman and Finance Committee Chairman MK Moshe Gafni addressed the opposition to the legal reform on Saturday night in a speech he gave at a party conference promoting the legislation, claiming that "we are in the midst of a religious war." This is in continuation of the claim he presented that the reform has no economic implications for the economy, and that the Israeli economy is in excellent shape.

"The heads of the economy and economists explained to me a few months ago how difficult the reform is, and I asked them: What does this concern you?" said Gafni in his speech. "They said it would hurt the economy," he added. "It's been quite some time since then and the economy is excellent. You don't see that there's anything different."

"I told them at the time that they didn't mean legal reform," Gafni added. "We saw on Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv what they mean when they pull on tzitzit in the middle of Kol Nidre prayers. We are in the midst of a religious war," he claimed. "Their war is not economic, security or social – it's a religious war, and that's how we have to treat it. God willing, we will withstand it."
