In the month of Halloween, terror can not be missing in the bets of the platforms. On that path walk Netflix proposals such as The Fall of the House of Usher, with the literature of Edgar Allan Poe as the protagonist, or the return of 30 coins to HBO Max, the series in which Alex de la Iglesia gives free rein to his creative universe. In our selection of the television titles of the month there is also room for period stories such as Cooking with chemistry or The Golden Age. In addition, the title with which Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar return to television production, Mentiras pasajeras, and the long-awaited new creation by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, La mesías, which also transits through terror.
Spanish production comes strong in October. To those already mentioned is added Urban: life is ours (day 4 on Amazon Prime Video), where two women embark on a trip to Malaga in which they will meet a singer who is making a niche in urban music. The purple network (day 8 in Atresplayer) brings to the screen the second novel of the saga of Carmen Mola starring the inspector Elena Blanco, Nerea Barros in fiction. The seventh season of Elite (day 20 on Netflix) continues with the stories of the students of Las Encinas in the longest-running Spanish production on the platform. Maribel Verdú, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Anitta are among the additions this season. And the second installment of Ser o no ser (day 11 on RTVE Play) delves into the emotional journey of its protagonist, a young trans stage high school student.

Another series that has been shown (and celebrated) at the San Sebastian festival has been this Argentine production created by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, the directors at the helm of another success by chapters, El encargado. This dramatic comedy follows a sophisticated food critic whose life is completely changed when, following the death of his personal assistant, he hires an inexperienced young woman from Paraguay to work at his home. Director, screenwriter and producer Mike Flanagan has become a reference name in audiovisual horror in recent years. Especially applauded have been some of his creations for Netflix, such as The Curse of Hill House or Midnight Mass. In his new proposal (the last with Netflix; he has signed up to create content exclusively for Amazon Prime Video), Flanagan looks to the literary material of the American writer Edgar Allan Poe to tell the collapse of a family dynasty in which the heirs begin to die at the hands of a mysterious woman. The usual cast in Flanagan's creations brings to life his reinterpretation of Poe's imaginary. It promises a few scares.

Science editor and writer Bonnie Garmus achieved great success with her first novel, Chemistry Lessons. Her story has been turned into a series with Brie Larson as the protagonist. Set in the fifties, it tells the life of Elizabeth Zott, a scientist fired from her laboratory because of the prevailing patriarchal society. When her plans take a turn, she ends up accepting a job as a presenter on a cooking TV show, where she will succeed in teaching housewives, and some men, much more than recipes. The result is a friendly and entertaining proposal narrated with time jumps, feminist background, careful period atmosphere and a good cast.

Julian Fellowes traded the early twentieth-century England of Downton Abbey for the United States of the late nineteenth century in The Gilded Age, but his love of period dramas remains unchanged. Now, he focuses on the contrast between the nouveau riche trying to gain a foothold in New York's high society and the elite who have inherited their right to be there from their family. And everything, with a cast of great level. In the second season, the character played by Carrie Coon will challenge the old system and try to gain prominence in society, while her husband (played by Morgan Spector) faces the battle that the union plants in their steel company. Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Louisa Jacobson are other names that complete the main cast of this series for lovers of period stories.
