In the month of Halloween, terror can not be missing in the bets of the platforms. On that path walk Netflix proposals such as The Fall of the House of Usher, with the literature of Edgar Allan Poe as the protagonist, or the return of 30 coins to HBO Max, the series in which Alex de la Iglesia gives free rein to his creative universe. In our selection of the television titles of the month there is also room for period stories such as Cooking with chemistry or The Golden Age. In addition, the title with which Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar return to television production, Mentiras pasajeras, and the long-awaited new creation by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, La mesías, which also transits through terror.

Spanish production comes strong in October. To those already mentioned is added Urban: life is ours (day 4 on Amazon Prime Video), where two women embark on a trip to Malaga in which they will meet a singer who is making a niche in urban music. The purple network (day 8 in Atresplayer) brings to the screen the second novel of the saga of Carmen Mola starring the inspector Elena Blanco, Nerea Barros in fiction. The seventh season of Elite (day 20 on Netflix) continues with the stories of the students of Las Encinas in the longest-running Spanish production on the platform. Maribel Verdú, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Anitta are among the additions this season. And the second installment of Ser o no ser (day 11 on RTVE Play) delves into the emotional journey of its protagonist, a young trans stage high school student.

Elena Anaya and Hugo Silva star in the first platform series of El Deseo, Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar's production company. From then on he will fight for justice and, at the same time, keep up appearances before his family so that they do not discover that the house of cards has collapsed at the worst possible time. After the success of Veneno, the Javis return with their new creation, an ambitious proposal that they write and direct. In seven chapters they narrate how a viral video of a Christian pop music group composed of several sisters causes great impact on the life of Enric, who grew up tormented by religious fanaticism and a mother with messianic delusions. Now, he wants to try to save the girls from that world he knows so well. A story with touches of terror, family drama and watered with religious fanaticism that has been very applauded in its screening at the San Sebastian festival. In the cast, Macarena García, Roger Casamajor, Lola Dueñas, Carmen Machi, Ana Rujas, Albert Pla, Cecilia Roth and Amaia Romero, among others.

Where and when to see it? Movistar Plus + premieres the first two episodes on the 11th, followed by a new one every week.

Luis Brandoni, protagonist of the series 'Nada'. Consuelo Oppizzi

Another series that has been shown (and celebrated) at the San Sebastian festival has been this Argentine production created by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, the directors at the helm of another success by chapters, El encargado. This dramatic comedy follows a sophisticated food critic whose life is completely changed when, following the death of his personal assistant, he hires an inexperienced young woman from Paraguay to work at his home. The culture and generational clash is served while both try to fit in little by little. Luis Brandoni, Argentine actor and politician, is the protagonist of this story in which Robert de Niro also participates as a guest artist.

Where and when to see it? Its five episodes will be available on the 11th on Disney+.

The Fall of the House of Usher

Samantha Sloyan, in the sixth episode of 'The Fall of the House of Usher'.

Director, screenwriter and producer Mike Flanagan has become a reference name in audiovisual horror in recent years. Especially applauded have been some of his creations for Netflix, such as The Curse of Hill House or Midnight Mass. In his new proposal (the last with Netflix; he has signed up to create content exclusively for Amazon Prime Video), Flanagan looks to the literary material of the American writer Edgar Allan Poe to tell the collapse of a family dynasty in which the heirs begin to die at the hands of a mysterious woman. The usual cast in Flanagan's creations brings to life his reinterpretation of Poe's imaginary. It promises a few scares.

Where and when to see it? It premieres in full on the 12th on Netflix.

Cooking with chemistry

Brie Larson, in the fifth episode of 'Cooking with Chemistry'.

Science editor and writer Bonnie Garmus achieved great success with her first novel, Chemistry Lessons. Her story has been turned into a series with Brie Larson as the protagonist. Set in the fifties, it tells the life of Elizabeth Zott, a scientist fired from her laboratory because of the prevailing patriarchal society. When her plans take a turn, she ends up accepting a job as a presenter on a cooking TV show, where she will succeed in teaching housewives, and some men, much more than recipes. The result is a friendly and entertaining proposal narrated with time jumps, feminist background, careful period atmosphere and a good cast.

Where and when to see it? Apple TV+ will host the first two episodes on the 13th, followed by a new one every Friday.

30 coins

Trailer of the second season of '30 coins'

Miguel Ángel Silvestre, in the second season of '30 coins'.

Alex de la Iglesia directs and co-writes, together with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, this series that combines terror with fantasy, adventures and the usual excessive world of De la Iglesia. The second season takes up the story set in the town of Pedraza when almost all the inhabitants are locked in a psychiatric hospital after the possessions they suffered in the previous installment. Now, the unlikely heroes of this story will have to face a new enemy, so perverse that even the devil fears him, while resolving doubts such as who Father Vergara really is, what has become of him and where the rest of the tortured souls are. The cast, headed by Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Megan Montaner and Eduard Fernández, are joined this season by Najwa Nimri and American actor Paul Giamatti.

Where and when to see it? It premieres on the 23rd on HBO Max.

This Spanish thriller with half-hour chapters premiered at the beginning of the year on the ViX platform, of the TelevisaUnivision group, and now arrives in Spain after critics praised its marked feminist character and its claim for solidarity between women. María León, Leticia Dolera, Aislinn Derbez, Silvia Alonso and Paula Usero play five friends from youth who meet again in the summer of 2010 in the village of the mountains of Madrid where they spent the summers as teenagers. Their plans change when they discover that one of them has kidnapped three men, three rapists who were not convicted. Its first season has recently been nominated for International Emmys in the categories of best drama and best actor, Gustavo Bassani. The second installment of the espionage thriller created by Daniel Burman has as a backdrop the attack on the AMIA in July 1994, the car bomb attack suffered by the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association in Buenos Aires, the bloodiest in the history of the country, which left hundreds of people dead or injured. The protagonist is a fugitive and determined to speak publicly when the Israeli intelligence service asks him to investigate Argentina's biggest military secret: the Condor missile. Recommended for lovers of spy stories, intrigue and action.

The Golden Age

Julian Fellowes traded the early twentieth-century England of Downton Abbey for the United States of the late nineteenth century in The Gilded Age, but his love of period dramas remains unchanged. Now, he focuses on the contrast between the nouveau riche trying to gain a foothold in New York's high society and the elite who have inherited their right to be there from their family. And everything, with a cast of great level. In the second season, the character played by Carrie Coon will challenge the old system and try to gain prominence in society, while her husband (played by Morgan Spector) faces the battle that the union plants in their steel company. Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Louisa Jacobson are other names that complete the main cast of this series for lovers of period stories.

Where and when to see it? Starting on the 30th, on HBO Max.
