THE FIGARO. - Derna residents staged a protest on 18 September to demand an international investigation into responsibility for the extremely deadly death toll from Storm Daniel. Are you in favour of that?

Abdulhadi LAHWEEJ. - What is important is that it was a peaceful protest, and it is one of the expressions of democracy. It's not like the "yellow vests" in France, who invade public places, dismantle banks and rob shops.

Would you accept an international investigation to determine responsibility, particularly with regard to the lack of maintenance of the water dams that have failed?

The Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office is in charge of the investigation. We are in favour of transparency. But if you want my point of view, I think it's a natural disaster. Whatever the level of preparedness and our capabilities, it was difficult to deal with it. If we have to judge people...
