Summer temperatures don't give you any thought of winter at the moment. Nevertheless, a weather expert is already daring to make an initial forecast - with sobering prospects.
Munich – Summer fans are likely to get their money's worth this year: although autumn has already begun, many regions can still look forward to high temperatures and numerous hours of sunshine. Anyone who thinks that summer temperatures could also throw a spanner in the works for winter is quite right. A weather expert is already taking a look at the coming months. Snow fans in particular, however, are unlikely to like the view at all.
Weather in Germany: First forecasts are available - weather model shows too warm winters
Meteorologist Dominik Jung is not yet quite sure about the winter. As the expert explains in his current weather video, the first forecasts are not yet set in stone. Nevertheless, the expert has already recorded an initial trend through weather models in the current video. According to the US weather service NOAA and initial forecasts, the coming winter could be 1 to 2 degrees too warm, for example. However, another NOAA forecast suggests that the winter could be only 0.5 to 1 degree above the new climate average from 1991 to 2020. This means that the winter could still be in the range of the warmest winters since weather records, but for the time being it will not be the warmest winter of all time.

As the weather expert further explains, it can be expected that the winter will be at least rather wet and mild overall: "This speaks for the classic westerly wind weather situation," Jung continues. Especially in the south and west of Germany, the winter could be even wetter than usual. Especially at higher altitudes, however, this could also result in snow. But winter fans should not have high hopes for snow in the coming months.
Weather expert predicts too warm winters - "two white blobs in the north"
Especially in December, the snow could have a hard time in many parts of Germany. As the weather expert further explains in the video, it is to be expected that December could also be 1 to 2 degrees too warm. January also threatens to be "quite warm". Dominik Jung continues in his current weather video. "We can make it short, there is not much new to report in February either. But still, we see two white blobs in the north." As the weather expert explains, this could mean that January could at least be "normal temperate" in these regions.
While the winter could thus become significantly too warm, the autumn will also remain exceptionally summery in many regions. Currently, autumn in Germany oscillates between summer heat and the danger of storms. While in Germany the bathing lakes were again in demand at up to 29 degrees, there was snow chaos in the north of Sweden - earlier than at any time in 93 years.
