Kaufbeuren – Early Saturday morning, September 30, a fire broke out at the well-known excursion destination "Römerturm" in Kaufbeuren. The property damage is high, the police are investigating arson. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.
At around 5.30 a.m., the Allgäu Integrated Control Centre received notification of the viewing platform of the actual keep of Kemnat Castle, which was on fire. A local resident had become aware of the fire by loud crackling and crackling.

Extinguishing attack from two sides
When the fire brigade arrived, parts of the parapet and roof structure from the 12th century were already on fire, according to the operational report of the Kaufbeuren fire brigade. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the emergency services, the fire brigades of Kleinkemnat, Oberbeuren and Kaufbeuren, it was possible to prevent the flames from spreading to the entire roof truss of the building.
The extinguishing attack was carried out from two sides: once via the turntable ladder and at the same time two squads with heavy breathing apparatus went over to the interior attack. After the extinguishing work, the fire brigade checked the scene of the fire with a thermal imaging camera as a precaution. Then the scene of the fire could be handed over to the investigators by the Criminal Investigation Service. These assume arson and have now handed over the case to the criminal investigation department Kaufbeuren.
No people were injured in the fire. However, the property damage to the roof structure also amounts to about 50,000 euros. Since the investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, any witnesses are asked to report to the Kaufbeuren Criminal Investigation Department on 08341/9330.
