The Speaker of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet denounced on Tuesday 3 October an "ethnic cleansing" in Nagorno-Karabakh and was in favour of the introduction of European sanctions against Azerbaijan, including against the family of President Ilham Aliyev.
Questioned on RTL, Yaël Braun-Pivet mentioned the possibility of "economic sanctions" but also "sanctions that could be personal sanctions, which could directly target the Aliyev family".

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna will reaffirm Tuesday in Yerevan the France's support for Armenia, which has fears for its sovereignty and territorial integrity after Azerbaijan's victorious offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Armenians in the mountainous enclave under Azerbaijani sovereignty capitulated last week in the face of a blitzkrieg from Baku that left nearly 600 dead in its wake. More than 100,000 Armenians fled.
