Peter Urban led the ESC for 25 years. This year was the last time he took on this task. The presenter could well imagine Andrea Kiewel as his successor.
Hamburg – The regular "ZDF Television Garden" took place for the last time last Sunday. This week (1 October), Andrea Kiewel (58) reported for the first time with the "ZDF-Fernsehgarten on Tour" from Hamburg. Among others, she received ESC legend Peter Urban (75) in the Hanseatic city. After 25 years, he said goodbye this year as speaker of the "Eurovision Song Contest". He even has an idea of who could follow in his footsteps.
ESC legend Peter Urban proposes Andrea Kiewel as successor
After Andrea Kiewel blabbed live in the ZDF television garden and revealed details about the new "Celebrity Backing" season, she received Peter Urban. His commentator position at the ESC is currently vacant after announcing his retirement this year. The presenter with his memorable voice leaves big shoes to fill. Apparently, however, Peter Urban believes that Kiwi could fill it.
In the "ZDF-Fernsehgarten on Tour" Andrea Kiewel spoke to him about his successor. As a result, the 75-year-old initially showed himself to be haphazard: "I don't know, it's not my job to determine that. I don't think that's decided yet: I think a woman would be good. How about it, Andrea?" However, the blonde waved it off directly. "I'm ZDF and that's ARD," she remarked, but Urban is sure: "We'll get there!"
Andrea Kiewel as ESC commentator? TV garden viewers discuss
There is little enthusiasm on the net after this proposal. "It will be difficult to inherit Peter Urban to the ESC. Maybe Thomas Herrmann's?" suggested a viewer on X, formerly Twitter. Another user, on the other hand, made his point clear and wrote: "Please NEVER Kiwi or Schöneberger as Urban's successor to moderate ESC."

Soon, however, the TV garden presenter will take on another task: She will get her own show "Kiwi's Big Party Night" and will be able to welcome pop legend and US icon, among others. Sources used: ZDF / "Fernsehgarten on tour" on October 1, 2023; twitter.com
