When packing, holidaymakers often ask themselves whether they can take food or a large bottle of sunscreen with them in their checked luggage, for example.
The suitcase for the plane often only fits the essentials. What can I take with you in your checked baggage? Good to know: "Drinks and other liquids are allowed in checked baggage," the portal informed Anwalt.de. in an article (as of 3 May). Food could also be "easily transported in normal household quantities in checked baggage," the portal described. "Holidaymakers should note, however, that separate regulations apply to food of animal origin." As a general rule, holidaymakers should also inform themselves about the customs regulations of the individual countries before starting their journey. There are also restrictions on carry-on baggage.

Which foods are allowed in the suitcase and which are not?
The import of certain food and feed into Germany could be "restricted or even generally prohibited due to special regulations," customs also informs. "The import of potatoes, even in small quantities, is generally prohibited in tourist traffic, in particular because of the risk of spreading bacterial ring rot," it says, among other things, to the provisions on zoll.de, where further examples of special regulations and prohibitions are also listed.
Do you want to pack large amounts of sunscreen or shower gel in your suitcase?
When it comes to hand luggage, there are strict regulations as to what you can take with you in the small, specified quantities of liquids in the transparent, resealable plastic bags, whether for carrying everything from toothpaste to lip gloss. When it comes to checked luggage, holidaymakers have it a little easier: "A large bottle of sunscreen, a perfume bottle with a capacity of over 100 millilitres or the shower gel, for example, can be packed into the suitcase just as easily," says the article by Anwalt.de, among others.
