I almost feel sorry for Yossi Shelly, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office. While his boss stands in front of microphones and talks high about unity, seasoned with verses from the sources, he is the one sent to answer the media's tough questions.
Only almost, because a person who blames (even if after a minute he comes to his senses and says he does not blame) hundreds of young people for their deaths does not deserve mercy. However, even if we don't forgive Shelly for his terrible statement, we can't help but thank him: He provided us with a rare glimpse into Benjamin Netanyahu's mechanism of action.
It is not for nothing that Netanyahu, pretending to be excited, mentioned the circumcision ceremony in which the father who goes into battle says, "With your blood, my life," and it is not for nothing that he used additional excerpts - in doing so, he defined the audience that should be moved by his speech, which he concluded with lip candy calling for unity (but only one that will not harm his "block." We will return to that).

A minute later, the director general of his office was sent to the cameras and microphones. Shelly is the kind of person who is not only forbidden to speak without Netanyahu's approval, it is doubtful whether they have permission to think without him. So make no mistake: every message he sent to the Channel 12 News studio was carefully planned and polished. I won't repeat what he said in which he accused the nature party and its participants of "contributing to the chaos," but the rationale behind them is too horrifying to be overlooked.
Shelly, or whoever puts it in his mouth, knows that natural parties are for young people, most of them liberals, most of them those who hold flags on Saturday nights and join the protest in the name of democracy. It's true that even this categorizing thinking is indicative of outdated patterns (there are enough young right-wing supporters who get tattooed, drink, knock out some shachta and dance at nature parties), but in a rough generalization - he's right.

We are all Jews, we are all mortal.
But while the blood of the murdered, regardless of their proximity to religion or ethnic origin, was soaked in the sands of the Negev, the prime minister and his official representative had already stormed the bodies in order to distinguish between blood and blood: Netanyahu picked up from the horn and Yossi Shelly ran to butt in - to continue dividing, conflicting and inciting, even at the expense of the terrible pain of the families, some of whom still have no information about their loved ones - and already they hear that they were guilty of their deaths, who "contributed to the chaos" only because they tried to celebrate life within the borders of the Land of Israel.

Shelly can explain and Netanyahu can shake off, but make no mistake for a moment: it wasn't a slip of the mouth here, but a planned and organized media move. One of the clichés that has prevailed here lately is that "this is not the time." Well, this really is not the time. We should all hope that the man at the head of the system will be wise enough to manage the campaign by trickery, just as he manages his (albeit unsuccessful) media policy. The day for investigations, questions and settling the public and moral reckoning with the man will come - in a month or in a year. Then we will recall the poison machine that did not stop working even when our bodies lay in the sands and we will bring him to justice, completely legally, without breaking the law, but anyone who was one of the organizers of the (justified!) protest against Olmert after the Second Lebanon War (hoping to marry her to the prime minister's seat, which indeed happened) will know that Moti Ashkenazi's protest tent after the Yom Kippur War, It's a small house on the prairie compared to what awaits it here the day after.
