British Ambassador Simon Walters volunteered yesterday (Sunday) at Assif, the Center for Food Culture in Israel. For the past three weeks, the place has been functioning as a center for cooking, packing and sending food to families evacuated from their homes, hospitals, and more. The ambassador joined the dozens of volunteers and staff at the site and helped pack the food and prepare it for shipment. "I was moved by the strength, unity and generosity that I saw today at the meeting, and in Israel in general in recent weeks," Walters said yesterday.
He added that "this is an inspiring example of solidarity when communities come together and stand side by side."

On the feelings he had when he volunteered, he said: "It was a refreshing moment of optimism during these difficult days. I hope that my small donation today will be able to help even a little families and citizens who are in such great difficulty."
Walters also added a few words about the British government's role in the efforts being made to return the hostages, saying: "I share in the sorrow and mourning of the citizens of Israel after the brutal terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7. The UK government will continue to work tirelessly to bring all abductees home safely."
