An article published on the Real Raw News site claims that New York Attorney General Letitia James was detained by the legal branch of the U.S. Navy, known as the JAG Corps, for "treason and other serious crimes," allegedly following an investigation that began shortly after she and her associates filed a lawsuit against the Trump Organization.

The claim, which is false, was posted on Nov. 2 and has been shared more than 200 times in four days on Facebook, according to social media analytics tool CrowdTangle, cited by USA Today.

The text also claims that the legal branch of the U.S. Navy has as "evidence" an audio conversation between James and New York Governor Kathy Hochul in which James allegedly says that he hates Trump and that "I will do everything in my power to take him down."

The New York prosecutor has not been arrested. In fact, she has been seen publicly during the ongoing civil fraud trial against Trump and remains active on her official Facebook account, where she can be seen giving updates on the case.

The most recent post in which she appears is from November 6. In the video, the New York attorney general reports that Trump rambled in his presentation to the court and hurled insults. "At the end of the day," she notes, "documented evidence showed that (Trump) falsely inflated his assets to basically enrich himself and his family."

"The numbers don't lie, and Mr. Trump can obviously engage in all of these distractions, and that's exactly what he did, what he committed today on the stand, create distractions and hurl insults," she said, adding that "I will not be intimidated, I will not be harassed. This case will continue."

Trump's Net Worth

With a defiant attitude, former President Donald Trump testified Monday in a New York court in the civil trial that could lead to the dismantling of his business empire.

James' office filed the lawsuit in September 2022 for alleged million-dollar fraud in his businesses over 10 years, seeking $250 million in compensation for these alleged irregularities, as well as barring Trump and his family from doing business with New York-based companies for five years, and prevent them from receiving loans from financial institutions in the state.

Since the process began, Trump has repeatedly lashed out at James, calling him a "political fraud," and described the case against the family business as "an embarrassment."

In his 220-page lawsuit, James detailed the former president's efforts to swell his personal wealth to secure favorable loan deals. He also denounced that the former president designed a large-scale fraudulent scheme, inflating the value of his properties to seek bank loans or deflating it to pay less taxes.

"We found that Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset securities more than 200 times in 10 years in their annual financial statements," the attorney general said in September 2022. "These statements were then used to obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and insurance," he added.

Trump's legal battles

Trump will also be tried in four criminal cases next year: the classified federal documents case; the election interference case in Fulton County, Georgia; the election interference case in Washington, D.C.; and the Manhattan district attorney's investigation into money payments to Stormy Daniels to buy her silence.

While Trump's appearances this week put the spotlight on the legal problems facing the former president, they have also served as a platform to raise his denunciations of political persecution by the government. He has repeatedly referred to the cases against him as a "witch hunt."

At least one other former president has testified in court after he left office: Teddy Roosevelt did so twice and won both cases.

Noticias Telemundo contacted James' office and, as of the time of publication of this piece, there was no response.
