Update from November 18, 7:55 a.m.: Even on Saturday morning, there is no trace of the two missing Italians, and there is still uncertainty about the disappearance of the young couple. As reported by the portal suedtirolnews.it, among others, the two are now also being searched for in Austria. According to the report, the 22-year-old's car crossed the border to Tarvisio for the first time on Sunday. The car was also seen in Carinthia on Tuesday. This is reported by the portal, citing investigators and Italian media.
It remains unclear what might have happened between the couple. Could the young man have killed his girlfriend? Investigators now harbor this suspicion, the portal continues. There is also still uncertainty about the relationship status of the two. Investigators also consider that the couple had been separated for some time. As suedtirolnews.it further reports, the Venice Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation on Friday on suspicion of murder. As part of the investigation, a video is currently being examined that is supposed to show an alleged assault by the young man on his ex-girlfriend.
As the portal further reports, the recording shows the young man beating the young woman with his fists. Accordingly, it can also be seen how the later missing woman falls lifeless to the ground. Shortly thereafter, investigators discovered blood stains at this very spot. These details have not yet been officially confirmed. As reported by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, this video is now also the trigger for the European arrest warrant against Filippo Turetta.
Missing person case shocks all of Italy: father of missing Giulia with appeal
Update from November 17, 2023, 19:21 p.m.: The search for the missing Giulia Ceccettin and Filippo Turetta, her ex-partner, is still ongoing. Giulia's father is convinced that Turetta is holding the young woman against her will. He appeals to him to let her go.
"Bring Giulia back to us (...). We're not judging you, but it's time to stop and talk to each other (...). If you can hear us, if you just let us hear Giulia's voice, that could also be a hope, because so many days have passed and it's exhausting, the strength of us family members is dwindling," Sky tg24 quotes Giulia's father.
Update from November 17, 2023, 14:39 p.m.: Now the Italian investigating authorities have a video that is supposed to show a potentially decisive scene in the missing person case of Giulia Ceccettin and Filippo Turetta: There is a surveillance video not far from the student city, where traces of blood and an adhesive tape with hair have already been found. The video shows an attack by Filippo on Giulia, writes the newspaper Repubblica. The footage is said to have come from the surveillance camera of a warehouse in the industrial area of Fosso and is part of the investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office. Probably also because of the video, the Italian judiciary is now investigating for attempted murder. This makes it possible, for example, to search Filippo's house.

First reported on November 17, 2023, 11:16 a.m.:
Venice/ Padua – The whole of Italy is looking for Giulia Cecchettin and her ex-partner Filippo Turetta. The two have been missing for five days. The 22-year-old would have celebrated her graduation soon, she had only recently lost her mother. Now, wild theories are circulating about what might have happened to her and her ex-boyfriend.
Relatives of the missing have spoken to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. "The more time passes, the less I know what to think," says Elena Cecchettin, Giulia's sister. The relatives only want one thing: "The only thing that matters is to know where my sister is, everything else is unimportant."
Did the missing Giulia Cecchettin and Filippo Turetta go abroad?
According to reports from Corriere del Veneto, the license plate of Filippo's car was captured on Sunday at 9:07 a.m. in the Belluno region in the direction of Dobbiaco (South Tyrol). Therefore, the Italian media speculate that the two may have traveled abroad together, more precisely to Austria.
However, since the search for the two was already underway when a possible border crossing may have taken place, it is unlikely that she and her car could have crossed the border unnoticed. Not the first missing person case to make waves in Italy, in the summer all of Florence searched for a missing girl.
Missing person case in Italy: Could the ex-boyfriend have something to do with the disappearance?
"Bye, Dad, I'm not coming back for dinner, we'll see you later," Giulia is said to have said on Saturday evening, before arranging to meet Filippo for dinner at a shopping center.
The next possible lead of the two: A witness reported to the police an argument between a couple in a parking lot near Giulia's parents' house. However, the car was already gone when the carabinieri arrived. It wasn't until the next morning that the two were reported missing by their families.
According to Corriere del Veneto, there was soon a hypothesis from Giulia's relatives – not from Giulia's father, but from her uncle and aunt: "Filippo was not happy that Giulia graduated because he was afraid she might distance herself from him." The case has some similarities with a missing person case from the USA.
Theories in the missing person case Giulia Cecchettin and Filippo Turetta: "My son would never have done anything to Giulia"
It is also not yet entirely clear in which relationship status the two missing persons really stood. Several Italian media outlets reported that Giulia had broken up with Filippo in the summer. However, it is not excluded that they got back together out of guilt. However, most of the media refer to him as an ex-boyfriend. Filippo's father reacted very emotionally to the speculations and representations in the Italian media: "My son would never have done anything to Giulia, he loved her endlessly," he said in an interview.
The disappearance of Giulia and Filippo is said to have nothing to do with the imminent conclusion. "Yes, my son was a bit possessive at times, but not in a pathological way like they describe. He was jealous, as boys of that age are, but not in a way that would worry us." The families of the missing are publicly asking for clues. Police reportedly found a tray with traces of blood near Giulia's parents' home and took DNA samples, which are now being evaluated. Meanwhile, in Bavaria, the remains of a missing man were recently found.
