The well-known climate activist and family man Christian Bläul has already been imprisoned for his protest actions. Now he has been convicted again.

Berlin – Seven months in prison on probation. This is a personal record verdict for Germany's best-known climate adhesive. "I'm ready to go to prison," says Christian Bläul (41) himself. On Wednesday (15 November), he was sentenced by the Tiergarten District Court in Berlin. It was about participating in four road blockades of the "Last Generation".

Seven-month verdict against Bläul: Klimakleber still wants to protest

The verdict will not stop him from continuing to participate in protests, Bläul announces. On his website, he writes that he would accept a prison sentence in order to draw attention to the disaster: "We now need stable majorities for climate protection measures." He is planning the next protest action on December 7 in his hometown of Dresden.

It is not exactly unlikely that the activist will soon be sentenced to a real prison sentence: Just recently, Bläul was sentenced to a total fine of 800 euros for coercion in two cases and resistance to law enforcement officers. At the same time, another criminal case against the 41-year-old is currently pending, as the press spokeswoman of the local court told the Sächsische Zeitung.

'Last Generation' Activist Ready to Go to Jail

Bläul is a father of two and, according to his own statements, a "full-time climate glue" since he lost his job at an IT company in February. He has been protesting for better climate protection since 2019 and has been part of the "Last Generation" for a year and a half. He is now one of Germany's best-known activists.

Because of his participation in protest actions, the physicist has already been imprisoned once. In the summer of 2022, Bläul spent 16 days in a prison in Stockholm for gluing himself to the road as part of a traffic blockade in Sweden.

"Last Generation" Causes New Controversy

The "Last Generation" has long been the subject of controversial debate in Germany. Although the group's actions are peaceful, they are often aimed at interrupting daily life, for example through traffic blockades. The activists are also accused of extremism. The last action to cause a stir took place on Thursday (16 November). Activists of the group smeared the Brandenburg Gate with orange paint for the second time.
