How much money do you earn on average in Germany? Evaluations by the Federal Statistical Office provide insights.

Kassel – What is the average income in Germany and where do I rank on average? The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) answers this question annually in its evaluation. All occupational groups included (agriculture, manufacturing and the service sector) combined, a full-time employee receives an average of 4,105 euros gross per month with a paid weekly working time of 38.1 hours. The Federal Office refers the results to the month of April 2022.

Calculated over one year, this results in an average gross income of 49,260 euros. And the Federal Office goes into even more detail about the average salaries in Germany and also examined the amount of monthly gross income depending on the graduation level:

Average salary in Germany: How much do you earn with which degree?

Within specific professions, however, the gap is even more visible than average salaries suggest. Without including special payments, pilots, for example, are the absolute top earners with an average gross monthly income of 8,739 euros. Doctors were slightly lower at 7,706 euros and software developers at 5,541 euros. In comparison, bakers (2,738 euros), cooks (2,590 euros) and hairdressers (1,778 euros) earn significantly less.

How much do part-time employees earn on average in Germany?

The Federal Statistical Office also provides some figures for part-time employees, but these are much less disaggregated than those for full-time employees. Accordingly, the average salary here is 2,147 gross in April 2022. This corresponds to an annual salary of 25,764 euros with a weekly working time of 24.2 hours. The only breakdown here is once again into manufacturing industry with 2,221 euros and the service sector with 2,144 euros gross.
