We are acting to put a stop to trafficking": a company of CRS arrived on Monday 27 November as reinforcements in Dijon, the day after the death of a father, collateral victim of a burst of gunfire at a deal point located below his home.

Some 70 agents of the Republican Security Company (CRS) 8 have begun anti-narcotics operations in the sensitive district of Stalingrad, where a man in his fifties was killed by a stray bullet while sleeping in his apartment, but also in the Grésilles district, another sensitive area where riots broke out in June 2020.

Urban Violence Management

Created in 2021, the CRS 8 has been given the mission of managing urban violence and the fight against drug trafficking. Based in Bièvres, in the Paris region, it is likely to operate throughout the country. It was recently deployed in Nice, after the shooting in the Moulins district.

In Dijon, the aim is "to put a stop to trafficking", explained the prefect of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Franck Robine, to the press, following with the police of the CRS and their departmental colleagues several searches of building cages. Our goal is to "systematically target all the deal points," i.e. "several dozen," the prefect added.

These operations, which are expected to last until the end of the week, led to the arrest of a person on Monday, who was taken into custody after the discovery of "a little cannabis resin" and a handgun, announced Bruno Gallot, departmental director of public security (ÖSP) of Côte d'Or, without further details. The seizure was made in the building across the street from the building where the father was killed.

Gunmen on the run

In the Grésilles district, a bag containing cannabis herb and resin as well as an as-yet-unidentified powder were also found in a hiding place. "We don't want to give up. What happened on Sunday is serious and unacceptable," the prefect said, in response to criticism that such operations, already carried out in the past, have not extinguished trafficking and violence. The 50-year-old who died on Sunday was fatally shot while lying in bed in his apartment, located immediately above a known deal point.

The suspected shooters are still at large but their car has been found, according to a police source, who specifies that the shooter or shooters used a machine gun and that about 60 shell casings were found at the scene.
