A double summer-winter Olympic project for Benjamin Daviet. Present at the Étoiles du Sport in Tignes (Savoie), the ten-time Paralympic medallist in biathlon and cross-country skiing, who is also the flag bearer of the French delegation for the Beijing Winter Games in 2022, announced on Tuesday his association with Perle Bouge.
Together, the two para-athletes will try to qualify for Paris 2024 in the mixed double sculls event. After the retirement of Stéphane Tardieu, her long-time partner, the para-rower found herself without a buddy and proposed this sporting adventure to Benjamin Daviet.
"We started rowing together three weeks ago to see if we could match up with each other," explains the man who has the role of "godfather" in this edition of the Étoiles du Sport. It's a good match, so we're continuing our adventure until the qualifying regatta in May in Lucerne. (...) It's an opportunity to do another sport, complementary to my own. I did my first international regattas this year. »
Daviet also has its sights set on the 2026 Winter Games
Before taking part in the Swiss event, which will be decisive for their presence in the Vaires-sur-Marne basin (Seine-et-Marne), Benjamin Daviet and Perle Bouge will meet several times to train together and achieve their first high intensity. "We're going to give ourselves the means," says Perle Bouge. It's a great human and sporting adventure. The trainer has already set times and is quite satisfied. For my part, I had very good feelings in the boat, gliding. He has that notion, with skiing, even if it's not on the same playing field, and you can feel it. »
Benjamin Daviet, who discovered rowing thanks to his now teammate on Paralympic Day in 2017, is not drawing a line under his winter season, which he will continue until the World Championships in May, nor the Olympic Winter Games in Cortina (Italy) in 2026.
