The past autumn in southern Germany broke all records: it was the warmest since records began and unusually wet.

Munich – Last autumn in southern Germany was the warmest since weather records began in 1881. That means it was the warmest autumn in 142 years. The average temperature in the Free State between September and November was 11.1 degrees. This is 7.9 degrees above the average for the internationally recognised reference period from 1961 to 1990. At the same time, it was a very wet season. This information was announced by the German Weather Service (DWD) on Wednesday, 29 November, in Offenbach after an initial analysis of its approximately 2000 measuring stations.

For statistical purposes, meteorologists summarize the seasons in whole months. Therefore, meteorological autumn includes the months of September, October and November. However, the calendrical or astronomical beginning of autumn this year was at the equinox on September 23.
