The football coach who had asked for intimate photos from the underage players of his club was sentenced by the criminal court of Nantes on Wednesday to 18 months in prison with a probationary period of two years. This sentence is slightly less severe than the 24-month suspended prison sentence requested by the prosecutor's office at the beginning of November. The 31-year-old, convicted of corruption and attempted corruption of minors, thus avoids imprisonment, provided that he does not reoffend or commit other offences during this period.
This sentence was accompanied by an obligation to provide psychological care, a ban on working with minors, as well as an obligation to pay a total of 7201 euros in damages to the victims, their parents and the former sports educator's club. Now registered as a perpetrator of sexual or violent offences, the coach was acquitted of the charge of possession of child pornography images, the court considering that the images in question "constitute the material element of the corruption of minors" for which he was convicted.

The former sports educator had taken advantage of his influence on five young people from his club in La-Chapelle-sur-Erdre, in the northern suburbs of Nantes, to ask them for photographs of their naked bodies, or even their genitals, under the guise of "personalized coaching" and a "bodybuilding program". The coach has been sacked from his club since 2020.
"I screwed everything up (...). I've gone way too far. I screwed up," admitted the coach during the hearing held in Nantes on 6 November. Issuing a series of apologies to the victims and their families, the defendant burst into tears as he said: "I was ashamed of what I had become. I was disgusted."
