The "Musical Mountain Christmas" tour has to do without Bata Illic. The 84-year-old pop star is in hospital after an accident and even had to undergo surgery.

Munich/Gräfelfing – There are only a few active musicians left who have really earned the title of 'Schlager veteran'. One of them is undoubtedly Bata Illic (84): The Yugoslavian-born folk musician has been on stage for more than half a century and still regularly performs live. Apparently, the 84-year-old does not want to retire for a long time.

Accident, hospital, surgery: Schlager star Bata Illic is out "until further notice"

Now, however, Bata Illic has to take an unwanted forced break: Actually, the "Black Madonna" interpreter should have taken part in the current "Klingende Bergweihnacht", where folk music favorites such as Patrick Lindner (63) or Alexandra Hofmann (49) will also perform. Around two dozen joint concerts are planned until the end of 2023 - but they will take place without the 84-year-old.

As Bata Illic announced on Facebook on Thursday (30 November), he is completely out "until further notice": "Unfortunately, I have to inform you that I had to be operated on yesterday after an accident and am currently still in hospital," the pop star wrote in his post. However, he hopes "to be able to stand on stage again very soon".

"Sounding Mountain Christmas" without Bata Illic, but with four other pop stars

However, it is not known exactly how Bata Illic is doing. His words, however, let it shine that the pop star will be fit again in the near future. The 84-year-old will miss the "Musical Mountain Christmas", but a well-known replacement has been provided: Patrick Lindner, Alexandra Hofmann, Nadin Meypo and Geri der Klostertaler (63) will worthily represent their colleagues at the upcoming concerts.
