Syrian media reported Saturday night that Israeli planes attacked targets in the Damascus area, according to the report, several missiles were intercepted by the Syrian air defense system. At first it was claimed that only damage had been caused, but later Iran announced that two "advisers" from the Revolutionary Guards had been killed in the attack.
Three weeks ago, the United States attacked two targets of Iranian-linked militias in Syria, the Pentagon announced, in response to continued attacks against U.S. forces in the region. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the attack, ordered by President Joe Biden, hit a training compound near the city of Abu Kamal and a safe house near the city of Mayadeen, both in eastern Syria.

"The President has no higher priority than the security of U.S. forces, and he ordered today's action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its forces, and its interests," Austin said in a statement. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), eight militants from the militias were killed in the strikes.
According to local reports, the airstrikes targeted a camp of pro-Iranian militias in the area west of Abu Kamal in Deir ez-Zor Province. The second attack took place near a bridge near the city of Mayadeen, near the border with Iraq, where pro-Iranian militias have a significant presence.
