The fifth of six children, Senator-elect Francisco Paoltroni, who lived in the countryside since he was a child and began working as a tractor driver at the age of 12, will be the candidate that Javier Milei will propose as provisional president of the Senate, as confirmed on Saturday by Guillermo Francos, future interior minister of the new government.
If his appointment is approved, which already has the approval of outgoing Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who days ago said that the seat should remain in the hands of La Libertad Avanza, Paoltroni will be third in the line of presidential succession.
When he was a boy, Paoltroni would get on a horse every morning and after walking 10 kilometers he would arrive at school. He often remembers that he started working at the age of 12, before entering high school, as a tractor driver and as a wheat harvest assistant in the central area of the province of Buenos Aires. He did so while he was starting high school at the Rural Training Center of Saladillo.
When he was 15 years old, he started his first venture: a fumigation plant in which he had two employees and after the death of his father he collaborated financially with his mother.
He began his career in Agronomy at Azul, but due to economic problems he returned to Saladillo to work in different activities. But then he managed to restart his studies as an Agricultural Engineer at the University of La Plata.
For many years he worked as a tax agent, a job that led him to visit several towns in the north of the country, until in 2008 he settled permanently in the capital of Formosa with his wife Romina.
Francisco Paoltroni, the agricultural businessman from Formosa who will be a senator from Milei.
In Formosa he was appointed representative for the development of auctions and in 2018 he fully dedicated his company Ganaderos de Formosa SRL, a ranch consignee, and then with two partners he founded Agroindustria de Formosa SRL, a company dedicated to the processing and manufacture of pellets and oil in the town of Ibarreta.
And at that time he resumed his studies as a Public Hammerer, Appraiser and Trade Broker at the National University of the Litoral. But his leap into politics only came after the 2021 PASO. "The objective is to carry out overcoming projects that will change the sad reality of poverty and marginalization in the province of Formosa, founding a new party accompanied by hundreds of people and candidates who, like me, have never held elected office," he said at the time.
This year, Paoltroni compared Milei to the coach of the Argentine national football team: "Scaloni brought Argentina to the world championship, without experience."
