On Thursday night, the long-awaited trailer for the prequel to the Mad Max saga was presented at the largest Comic-Con event in Brazil, featuring Anja Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, the stars of The Queen's Gambit and Thor.

The title: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was also released. Hemsworth took the stage with director George Miller to introduce the trailer and spoke.

"He's a complicated individual. He is a very violent, insane and brutal person who is born in the Wasteland, which is the world in which Mad Max takes place. He's a product of his environment," Hemsworth said of his character, Dementos.

He continued, "He was born in a space where what matters is kill or be killed. He learned to rule with an iron fist. There's a charisma in him and it's a very manipulative charisma."

The next installment will seek to expand on the post-apocalyptic dystopia that the franchise has been delivering since its debut on the big screen in the late 70s.

The actress, Golden Globe winner for The Queen's Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy, will reprise the role played by Charlize Theron in the 2015 film.

The story of the prequel

The story is a prequel that takes place in the origin of the young Furiosa. Kidnapped by a biker gang led by Dementus, Taylor-Joy must fight to survive and find her way back home.

The next installment is expected to maintain the intensity and action characteristic of the saga.

According to the director, the plot "takes place over many years and will be familiar to those who know Mad Max, and in particular Fury Road: we have vehicles built, stunts prepared, and we're well into that process."

The next stop in the Mad Max saga will hit theaters on May 24, 2024.

Anya's Career

Anya Taylor-Joy became famous playing a professional chess player in The Queen's Gambit and later won over Argentines by speaking, in the best Viggo Mortensen style, a perfect Buenos Aires accent, a product of having lived in Buenos Aires.

She was born in 1996 in Miami and is the youngest of six children. His father, of British descent, a banker and powerboat racer, was born and raised in Buenos Aires. Her mother, a psychologist, is originally from Zambia, Africa.

"I was born in Miami," the actress said, "but we immediately moved to Argentina, where most of my family still lives, and I was there until I was six years old."

Her family melting pot makes her define herself as a kind of citizen of the world. "I come from many different places, but I think my warmth and my way of seeing life are typical of Argentina. I'm so grateful for that part of my story. I feel very proud to come from Argentina." Favorite food? "Churros with dulce de leche, bread with provolone and empanadas."

Interestingly, for her, the coronavirus pandemic was a springboard to stardom. It sounds somewhat paradoxical and contradictory, but while everyone was in lockdown, The Queen's Gambit became an immediate hit on Netflix, where people were wondering about the character who brought Beth Harmon to life.

"This all happened in lockdown. So the craziest thing was that I was at home," the actress said.
