Two people die in an accident on the A555 near Bornheim. As 1. FC Cologne has now confirmed, two of the club's junior players were involved.
Update from 4 December, 8.45 a.m.: The fatal traffic accident near Bornheim on Friday evening (1 December) involved two young talents from 1. The club confirmed this when asked by Express.de: "We were informed about the accident and that players from the youth team of 1. The accident occurred on the way home from a regional league match with the U21s.
The circumstances of the accident remain unclear. A police spokesman told Express.de on Sunday (3 December). What is known so far: the Mercedes, as well as the Audi, have side accident damage, which could indicate that the cars have touched. In addition, there was damage to the front of the Audi. This leads to the conclusion that the Audi crashed into the rear of the VW Polo. The Polo had spun after the impact and then caught fire, as shown by tire tracks on the road.
First reported on December 2, 12:29 p.m.: Cologne – The debris was scattered over 200 meters. A serious accident occurred on the A555 motorway between Cologne and Bonn. Late on Friday evening (1 December), three vehicles were involved in an accident near Bornheim at around 23.30 p.m. A woman and a man died.

Since then, the A555 has been closed in the direction of Bonn for more than nine hours. The police are still busy searching for clues on Saturday. It is only with daylight that it is possible to take usable photos of the scene of the accident. For this purpose, the police use a drone, among other things. Only then will the track be fully reopened.

The course of the accident is currently still completely unclear. Meanwhile, the rumor has arisen that an illegal car race could be behind the crash. The police emphasizes that there are no indications of this. However: "In the event of an accident of this magnitude, we also investigate in this direction." However, this is the normal procedure. Just the night before, two fatal accidents happened around Cologne.
