Brazil's Minister of Energy Alexandre Silveira highlighted the country's potential for the development and commercialization of biofuels, a business capable of generating investments of 200 billion direal (38 million euros) by 2037. During a panel on the sidelines of the COP28 in Dubai, Silveira presented the government's Fuel of the Future programme, which includes incentives for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green diesel (HVO), second-generation ethanol, hydrated ethanol and biodiesel.
"We already have concrete projects: biorefining plant in Bahia, drilling of carbon capture wells in Mato Grosso and second-generation ethanol plant in São Paulo. This is a sign of legal certainty and regulatory stability, as well as political, environmental and social stability. Our country has contributed and will continue to contribute to solving the complex challenges that the world is facing, in particular by addressing the causes of climate change. We will be guided by the implementation of national policies that meet the needs of its citizens for a sustainable, balanced, conscious and fair path," the minister said.
