The suicide of 35-year-old Christina Rivels-Glick made headlines after many concluded that she took her own life because of an embarrassing video of her being arrested for using a vibrator at the beach in front of other bathers. But her relatives say she committed suicide eight months after the incident due to mental health problems and drug and alcohol abuse.

Georgia State Police body camera footage went viral, garnering more than 2.5 million views last month after Christina was arrested on July 1, 2021, for masturbating at Tybee Island, Georgia. The footage made headlines in several media outlets last week that reported on "the mischievous bather in the sea who delighted herself in front of stunned bathers." But then it turned out that this mischievous bather had taken her own life.

Many took to the internet to offer condolences to the death of the mother of two and unconfirmed rumors claimed that she committed suicide over the weekend because of public shaming. Her family confirmed that she had indeed committed suicide, but claimed that her death came only eight months after the incident, i.e. more than a year and a half ago, and that it had nothing to do with the incident on the beach or the virality of the video.

Instead, Rivels-Glick's story is an unfortunate tale of a deterioration that stemmed in part from excessive alcohol and drug abuse, which led her to break away from all her loved ones, commit countless crimes and end her life with a shot to the head.

This is the documentation that linked him to the cause of her suicide:

The viral video shows Christina, who was 34 at the time, relaxing on the beach when police contacted her after families complained that they heard "moaning" coming from her direction when they saw her lying on the beach covered in a towel. She denied masturbating and said she had just put a towel on herself. However, she later admitted to the police that she had a sex toy and that she used it to achieve orgasm.

When police asked to search her bag, she admitted to using a vibrator to calm down because she was "nervous" and didn't think anyone was seeing her. She was arrested and charged with public indecent exposure, an offence for which she could have received a 0-month prison sentence.

Speaking to the DailyMail, a member of Christina's family, who asked not to be identified, said: "Christina has passed away. She died about a year and a half ago. I really can't explain why she went the way she went. She had a good life for a while, she drove a BMW, she had a nice house - but she was naughty. She went off the rails and eventually found herself in prison."

Rivels-Glick has two sons, a 19-year-old from a previous relationship and a 15-year-old from a marriage that ended in divorce in 2015. While the marriage legally ended that year, the two had separated earlier, with Rawls-Glick first leaving her then-husband and their child just six months after the baby was born. "She got in trouble. She caused her arrest, her husband took her back after all this, but she was just wild," the family member said, "and then she fell into a really bad friend... Drinks, drugs."

The coroner's report confirmed the tragic death to her family when they were informed that she died on March 31, 2022, at a rented property in Hinesville, Georgia. According to the family member, she would have been dead for about 30 days until her body was found in the apartment by the landlord who wondered why she had not paid rent. The anonymous family member added: "It took a while to figure out who she was, but they were able to figure it out because she bought her son a motorcycle and she filled out the registration paperwork, so they had the information when they reported to us we thought: 'Well at least we know where she is now'."

The death certificate shows that Reeveles-Glick shot herself in the head and died of a wound that was seemingly not immediately fatal. The Hinesville police report states that a gun was found lying on the bed of the master bedroom. He notes: "A hole was seen in the roof directly above the bed. On the opposite side of the hallway, a decomposing female body (later identified as Ms. Christina Rivels-Glick) was seen lying on the ground." The report notes that Rivels-Glick had a "bullet exit wound on his forehead."

Riveles-Glick's body was cremated in a modest ceremony held in her hometown of Fitzgerald. Neither her ex-husband nor their son attended the ceremony. Records show Revels-Glick got into trouble with the law in Georgia and Florida, where she was considered a fugitive, after being charged with stealing a car in 2018. And she was arrested on more than one occasion, including for public drunkenness, that year. Court records in Chatham County, Georgia, also show several civil lawsuits against her, including claims for unpaid rent, property damage and stolen property.
