2023-12-04T10:08:44.935Z

Highlights: Work on flood protection on the Arzbach is almost complete. The flood protection wall has been erected, and the diversion over the temporary bridge has already been dismantled. The asphalting work has been completed and the Alpenbadstraße is once again regularly passable. Maintenance work will continue until 2025 on the riverbed at the mouth of the Isar in Bad Tölz. The limestones are broken and eroded and are gradually being replaced by granite, which is harder and more robust.

The WWA project is almost complete: The flood protection wall on the Arzbach will soon be completely completed. Maintenance work will continue until 2025.

Arzbach – The controversial work on flood protection on the Arzbach is almost complete. The flood protection wall has been erected, and the diversion over the temporary bridge has already been dismantled. The asphalting work has been completed and the Alpenbadstraße is once again regularly passable.

After work on flood protection Atzbach: Alpenbadstraße regularly passable again

Nevertheless, workers from the Holzkirchner construction company Rest were still in the area recently. Helmut Henkel, a master river builder from Lenggries, explains: "On the whole, the wall and thus the measure have been completed, these days only small things are still being done." This includes, for example, that the coating of the wall has to be applied and finished in some places. "To do this, a small section to the swimming pool on the Arzbach side has to be developed."

Currently, a basic framework with steel girders is in place for the bicycle and pedestrian crossing. "It will be back in exactly the same place as before the construction work." However, there is a new framework for this. "This is the responsibility of the municipality of Lenggries." Speaking of scaffolding: In the coming days, scaffolding about 30 centimeters high will also be mounted on top of the new concrete wall. "This is a regulation and serves as fall protection," Henkel explained at the on-site visit. Also, in some places, the side walls still have to be connected to the water protection wall. Henkel recently assumed that the project could be completed in full this year – "as long as the weather permits".

Maintenance measures on the riverbed until 2025

If you're surprised that there's still an excavator in Arzbach, "it's not there to build the wall," explains Henkel. A so-called maintenance measure on the stream is being carried out on an ongoing basis. "The limestones are broken and eroded and are gradually being replaced by granite." Granite is harder and more robust. "The torrent always transports a lot of debris." This entertainment measure has already been running for two years. "We started at the bottom at the mouth of the Isar and are working our way up." They will continue to work until the weir. "We expect the maintenance project to be completed in 2025," says the river engineer.
