Highlights: Free parking on streets close to the city centre. During the last construction phase, motorists will be allowed to park free of charge in Greinwald- and Traubinger Straße. The new regulation is to apply from the start of construction work in April 2024 until its completion, which is expected at the end of 2025. The Working Group on Mobility had brought the issue to the Council table, and the Transport Committee was not averse to it at its November meeting. It will be reviewed again in the autumn.

Tutzing – The renovation of Tutzing's main road and the associated closure is a burden for residents, motorists and businesses in the town centre. In order to do something good for the latter, the discussion about free parking in the town centre came up. The Environment, Transport and Energy Committee of the Tutzing municipal council recently agreed on a compromise. He decided that parking was allowed for free on Greinwaldstraße and Traubinger Straße, but not on the Greinwaldstraße parking lot below the school and also not at the parking lot at the cinema. The new regulation is to apply from the start of construction work in April 2024 until its completion, which is expected at the end of 2025. However, it will be reviewed again in the autumn.

The Working Group on Mobility had brought the issue to the Council table, and the Transport Committee was not averse to it at its November meeting. For the December meeting, the discussion was underpinned by figures. For example, the administration had calculated that the municipality would miss out on 41,000 euros in parking fees for the cinema car park, Greinwaldstrasse and Traubinger Straße. If all signs with references to parking fees were to be removed in this area, this would cost 1000 euros. It would be just as expensive to purchase new signs indicating the use of a parking disc. But that's off the table.

Parking fees should not be an argument, the committee was pretty much unanimous on that. This is because the management of the parking spaces was not introduced because of the money, but to ensure that there is fluctuation in the available areas. Citizens' attitudes towards staff turnover are ambivalent. Mayor Marlene Greinwald reported on letters from tradespeople who are against a time limit so that their employees can find a parking space. At the same time, residents wrote to her who wanted to park their cars on the street so that they could park their e-bikes in the underground car park. "There will never be enough parking spaces," said Greinwald, who was positive about the free parking proposal.

Caroline Krug (ÖDP) was vehemently against a change in the previous practice. "I don't see proportionality here, we need every euro," she said. For short-term parkers, there is the so-called bread button at the parking meters. Yes, confirmed Florian Schotter (CSU), "but you don't buy ski boots in half an hour". He recalled that parking fees were never intended for the household.

Dr. Joachim Weber-Guskar (FDP) stumbled over the ski boots. "Ski boots cost a three-digit amount, and we're talking about a parking fee of one euro." He thought it was extremely important to maintain turnover in the parking lots close to the center, saying, "I don't think it's working."

Thomas Parstorfer (CSU), on the other hand, showed understanding for the business people in the town centre. "The whole construction period of the main road has not been good for the traders." He suggested that the new practice be introduced on a trial basis at first. "Then we can look at it again." This is now supposed to happen in the autumn. Against the votes of Krug and Flora Weichmann (Greens), the committee spoke out in favour.

The new freedom of parking is particularly interesting on Greinwaldstraße. There are parking spaces in the double-digit range. On Traubinger Strasse, the possibility of parking is reduced due to the renovation work in the middle school.
