Several icy accidents after freezing rain have paralyzed the A99. The police had completely closed the highway in both directions – from north to south.
Update, 12:42 p.m.: The traffic situation is hardly easing. The A99 near Aschheim is still closed. There are still traffic jams and stagnant traffic on the A99 northbound. The clean-up work continues after the mass crash in the morning. The A8 near Odelzhausen was also closed for a long time after a fatal black ice accident. It has since been reopened. In the morning, Munich's rush hour traffic came to an almost complete standstill. Closures triggered long tailbacks on all known access lanes to the center. It was only in the morning that the traffic jams slowly eased.
Update, 09:22 a.m.: 13 vehicles are involved in the mass crash in the northbound direction, the police currently reports. The northbound closure will last until noon. The southbound A99 is currently being reopened.
Update, 08:44 a.m.: Meanwhile, the A99 in the district of Dachau is also completely closed after a fatal black ice accident during the night. A recent photo from the A8:

First report, 07.33 a.m.: Munich – The A99 from the Munich-Nord junction (A9) to the Munich Süd (A8) junction is completely closed in both directions. The closure this morning was necessary because there were various icy accidents on the entire route after freezing rain. This is currently reported by the police. At the moment, the emergency services can say little about the number of accidents and whether there are any injuries. Currently, rescue is being carried out and then the road is being cleared again to such an extent that traffic can be resumed.

Mass accidents after freezing rain on A99: Motorway totally closed - chaos in rush hour traffic
This would be urgently needed, because Munich is currently experiencing a veritable traffic gridlock. Presumably, many commuters have switched to cars because of the still non-running S-Bahn. This fact and the completely closed A99 colors all Munich access routes dark red in the current rush hour. Especially on the A995, the A9 and the A8 (all in the direction of Munich) a long backlog is currently growing.
