The Professional Football League confirmed this afternoon the Estadio Único de San Nicolás as the venue for the semifinal of the League Cup between Godoy Cruz de Mendoza and Platense, after the option of playing it on the field of Newell's Old Boys in Rosario was discarded.
"Given the impossibility of playing the semifinal between Godoy Cruz and Platense at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium, the management of Aprevide made it possible for the match to be played at the Estadio Único de San Nicolás, on Saturday 9, at 18 p.m.," the LPF confirmed on its official website.
The decision also has the acceptance of the Ministry of Security of the province of Buenos Aires, in coordination with Aprevide.
It is recalled that the Colossus Marcelo Bielsa was considered as the main stage for the clash, announced by the LPF itself, but Claudio Brilloni, head of the Ministry of Security in Santa Fe, dismissed it in statements to TyC Sports. We don't play in Santa Fe because we are in the middle of a change of government, the times are not right. We found out from the media that they had designated Santa Fe as the venue," Brilloni said.
The Secretary of Public Security of the Province, Marcos Romero, also spoke. "Usually nothing ever happens, but when it does it's always said 'how was this not foreseen'. If it happens, we are leaving a problem for the incoming administration," Romero explained in a radio interview. "A query came from Newell's (to play the semi-final at the Marcelo Bielsa) and we told them to wait for our response because La Liga had not communicated. We found out about the confirmation from some flyers: on the part of the League we were totally unconsulted," the official said on Cadena 3.
The new venue left the fans of Platense happier than those of Godoy Cruz: they will have to travel fewer kilometers to see their teams. On social media, Tomba supporters quickly expressed their jumps regarding the choice of the stadium. Regarding tickets, there has been no sales communication yet, although it is presumed that it will be through a website.
