Munich – After failed collective bargaining, the train drivers' union GDL has again called for a strike at Deutsche Bahn. Meanwhile, winter has fully arrived in Germany, experts expect the coldest phase since 2010. Meteorologist Dominik Jung now urgently warns wetter.net of winter "traffic chaos" on Friday (8 December). And in doing so, he appeals to the striking train drivers.

Like many others, Jung expects there to be "regional traffic chaos" on Friday morning. The meteorologist is therefore absolutely not satisfied with the timing of the rail strike. And sharply criticizes him: "It is irresponsible for the railways to go on strike in such dangerous weather conditions and thus drive numerous commuters into their cars and onto the roads, which are likely to be slippery tomorrow."

Jung expects numerous accidents due to the explosive weather conditions. "The rail strike should be urgently cancelled tomorrow, Friday. It even endangers human lives due to the high risk of accidents on the roads." Because the freezing rain is supposed to move eastwards around noon, you have to expect dangerous road traffic there as well. From Saturday, according to the forecast, milder air masses should prevail again for the time being.

Weather in Germany: "Just in time for the rail strike, an ice rain roller"

Jung explains: "Just in time for the rail strike, an ice rain roller is rolling towards West Germany." According to this, the temperatures in the night to Friday are expected to be around 0 degrees and slightly below: "In the second half of the night, snow and rain will then move in the western part of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Hesse and parts of Baden-Württemberg."

This precipitation will freeze on the ground in many places, according to Jung: "There is a threat of slippery chaos in the west." The meteorologist therefore recommends leaving the car in the affected regions on Friday morning. According to the weather expert, those who "can afford it" should work from their home office: "Switching to the train doesn't really help much, because it is precisely in this dangerous weather situation that most people do not come and go on strike."
