On Thursday evening, shots were fired in Cologne. The police shot at the alleged perpetrator after a robbery and probably fatally injured her.
Cologne – The shots were fired in the Cologne-Ehrenfeld district, more precisely in the area between Vitalisstraße and Vogelsanger Straße, according to the police. There, the police shot at a person whose gender and identity have not yet been disclosed by the police. However, posts about the incident quickly circulated online.
Police shoot at person – reason of the shots initially unclear
A police spokesman told 24rhein.de as follows: "The person was seriously injured and is currently receiving emergency medical treatment." Further information, such as how and why the shots were fired by the police, the police have not yet published.
According to a post by radio and RTL presenter Sebastian Redding, the person injured by the shots is said to have been a man. Another post from Redding states that the man has since died in the hospital. In it, he also shares a short video of Sascha Wallmeroth from the Cologne police.
Police shoot at man – he is said to have tried to rob a woman before
The man tried to rob a woman in a neighboring street and attacked her in her car. However, the woman was able to defend herself and the perpetrator fled. The woman then called the police, who confronted the perpetrator as he was about to get into a taxi. "According to witnesses, a knife may have been involved," Wallmeroth said. He also specifies: "A shot has been fired. That's where we are at the moment." (sp)
