A woman has been charged with aggravated armed assault with battery, attempted murder and arson after she set fire to a car and a man she had arranged to meet through the Tinder app at a Miami hotel.

Destiny Lenai Johnson, 25, was taken into custody late last month, Miami-Dade police said.

The woman is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami Dade County, The Miami Herald reported.

A judge denied him bail, according to jail records. Johnson pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, cited by the newspaper, this is how the events unfolded: the man told the police that he was waiting for Johnson at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel, located in the southern part of the city, around 6:00 am on November 25, when he noticed something strange.

He explained that he had met the woman on Tinder about a week earlier.

According to the account, he saw Johnson walk from a vehicle in an adjoining parking lot to his car carrying what appeared to be a gallon of water. Right after, the woman opened the passenger door of the man's vehicle and told him she needed money to fix her car.

In his account to the authorities, the man said he gave him $60. The woman then started yelling "you guys are following me" and poured a gasoline-smelling liquid into the car.

He told police that in trying to stop him from doing so, more liquid was spilled in and on the car, after which Johnson ignited the "combustible liquid" with a matchstick. As a result, the car was engulfed in flames and so was the man's right arm.

The police report said the man jumped out of the car, rolled across the asphalt to try to put out the flames on his body and then headed toward the hotel lobby to call for help.

According to The Miami Herald, the man was taken to a hospital.

Nearly two hours later, authorities found Johnson — who is due in court for a second time on Dec. 18 — naked and claiming she had set fire to a vehicle and was a victim of sex trafficking.
