The novel of the presidential plane, the ARG-01, seems to have no end: it arrived at the metropolitan airport on May 25 with a low flight that was considered risky, due to a check on the fuel tanks, today it is in the United States and that is why it will not be able to transfer Alberto Fernández to Brazil this Thursday.
Now it has become known that next week the administration of Javier Milei will debut with a tender for a "major inspection and adaptation of its satellite system" of more than 2 million dollars diagrammed by the current government.
It is an inspection service called "1C Check" for the Boeing 757-256 and the purchase and installation of the new internet system whose tender was published several days ago with an opening date scheduled for Thursday, December 7, but which would have been extended by the current administration for next week. The whole process was promoted by the head of the General Directorate of Logistics, Florencia Gastaldi, a leader with ties to the camporismo who previously worked at the ANAC (National Civil Aviation Administration).
In the last few hours, businessmen from the aeronautical sector came out to express their discomfort at considering the period too short to quote the service and sign up for the certificate. They remarked, for example, that an aircraft maintenance workshop takes a minimum of four weeks to prepare a quote of such magnitude, since it requires the work of engineers who analyze the 520 tasks foreseen in the specifications and only then value them.
An identical situation would occur with the spare parts to be quoted, since the bidder would have to look for their availability in the market, a process that will take several days. In the case of the satellite system, sources in the sector say that the process would take even longer. Internet systems for aircraft, in addition to being extremely expensive, are developed by manufacturers specializing in aviation electronics; For this reason, they require special certifications for the make and model of the aircraft to be installed.
That is why the time required for the submission of bids has aroused suspicion among some suppliers, who fear that some interested party has obtained "in advance the technical requirements" that would allow them to prepare the specifications in a timely manner. In addition, they argued that the certification would comfortably exceed the official budget and could reach US$ 6 million.
Defending the Tender
The General Secretariat of the Presidency, in charge of the Logistics Directorate, rejected these considerations and argued that the process was extended until next week so that the new administration can evaluate each of the bidders. They justified the assembly of the specifications in that it is an inspection that is carried out every 5 years of operation of the aircraft, with a scheduled date of March 2024, which logically requires carrying out an organizational process well in advance.
Although Karina Milei is the favorite to take charge of the Secretariat as of next Sunday, the sister of the president-elect has not yet been made official and her appointment has some legal impediment. A few days ago, "El Jefe" visited the current authorities at Casa Rosada, but he would not have interfered in the future of the official air fleet.
Weeks ago, the Air Force began to carve out the logistics of official aircraft. They plan to make a symbolic modification: to change the name of the ARG license plates to the traditional Tango ones. If this procedure is confirmed, the Tango 01 would once again lead the official fleet, the same name of another aircraft that since its beginnings in Argentina, in 1992, lived between controversies until its sale by scrap, at the beginning of this year.
