In reserve, Javier Milei and Sergio Massa met this week to articulate the broad strokes of the transition in the economic area, but above all to put black and white on the figures of indebtedness that Argentina has with the IMF and other credit organizations.

The secret meeting, which was confirmed by sources from La Libertad Avanza and the closest entourage of the former presidential candidate of Union for the Fatherland, took place on December 3 in a "neutral" setting. In addition to Massa and Milei, Karina Milei, sister of the president-elect, Guillermo Michel, head of Customs, and Juan Manuel Olmos, deputy chief of staff, were present.

According to Clarín, during the meeting Massa gave figures to the president-elect on the debts that the country has with the IMF, with the IDB, with the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and also with Qatar. In the latter case, it is the loan that the Asian state granted to the country last August to meet a maturity with the Washington-based multilateral credit organization. Milei also asked for clarification on how much remains in the Central Bank of the Chinese swap that integrates the reserves of that entity.

Although there were crossovers between the two during the last stretch of the campaign towards the runoff, especially during the last presidential debate, the link between the parties was always correct. Since his electoral triumph, the loquacious economist has avoided blaming the current head of the Ministry of Finance for the chaos of relative prices suffered by the country, which foresees an unprecedented acceleration of inflation in the short term.

The meeting also took place days before it was revealed that some Economy Ministry officials could continue in office in the next administration. It is the Secretary of the Treasury, Raúl Rigo, also Leandro Madcur, who last Wednesday shared a talk with Luis Caputo and the president-elect himself.

Rigo will most likely not remain in his position but Madcur, who has a long-standing relationship with Caputo, is evaluating whether to accept Milei's request. It has a complicated problem ahead of it: on December 29, Argentina has to pay a new maturity with the IMF and before that it needs the staff of the organization to agree to release the Special Drawing Rights to pay that quota.
