Former world-class rower Peter-Michael Kolbe has died, according to the German Rowing Association. The former world champion died at the age of 70 in a nursing home in Lübeck, as the DRV confirmed to the German Press Agency on Saturday with reference to a close friend of Kolbe, who looked after him until the end. The "Hamburger Abendblatt" had first reported on it.
Lübeck - In his active days, Kolbe was one of the world's best single rowers. In total, he won five world titles. He won the silver medal at the 1976, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. In 1975, Kolbe was voted "Sportsman of the Year".
After his active career, he worked for the German Rowing Association and was, among other things, sports director. Dpa
