IDF Spokesperson: "Hugs the Eisenkot family, Gal was the salt of the earth"/IDF Spokesperson
Maor Meir Cohen, nephew of the war cabinet minister and former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, fell in battle in the Gaza Strip, according to a report released Saturday. This came a day after the death of Gal Meir Eisenkot, the minister's son and Maor's cousin, who fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip. Maor, a regular soldier, is the son of Sharon Eisenkot, Gadi's half-sister, and Michael Michelle Cohen. Like Gal, his cousin, he is named after his grandfather Meir. The circumstances of his death have not yet been made public.

Staff Sgt. (Res.) Gal Meir Eisenkot, Gadi Eisenkot's son, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday while serving as a reserve soldier in the 699th Battalion, the "Half Fire" Formation. At the time of the announcement, his father was on a visit to the division in the south together with Minister Benny Gantz, and was taken out of the discussion to hear the tragic news.
Thousands accompanied him yesterday at a funeral held at the Herzliya military cemetery. "Surf our young son, Mom and I stand here with a large crowd to pay their last respects," his father, a minister in the war cabinet, eulogized him through tears. "On October 7, we all woke up to a shocking event. You immediately started organizing equipment. In a conversation about the war in Gaza, you told me that you and your fellow company members feel that this is a just war, that all the hostages must be returned and Hamas must be defeated," he said.

"I am sure that the State of Israel will be strong, developed and just - as you always used to criticize things you didn't like about what was happening here. I promise you that we will continue to be a close-knit and happy family so that your sacrifice and that of the fallen were not in vain. I salute you and pledge to you that we will do everything so that we will be worthy of contributing to the right decisions for the sake of those who sacrificed for your comrades in arms, and for the entire Israeli people."
