From 2011 to 2015, Günther Jauch had his own talk show on ARD. As Barbara Schöneberger reveals, he "suffered" from the workload at the time.

Hamburg – Günther Jauch (67) is better known in the German TV landscape than almost anyone else. The presenter is not only known for his "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" appearances, but also the face of numerous other shows. For many years, he also hosted his own talk show on ARD. But Barbara Schöneberger (49) knows that the political talk has caused problems for her friend and colleague. She remembers a memorable dialogue with Günther Jauch.

Schöneberger warns Caren Miosga against talk show workload and draws Jauch comparison

On December 8, 2023, Barbara Schöneberger will welcome Caren Miosga (54), among others, to the "NDR Talkshow". Starting in January, the former "Tagesthemen" spokeswoman will host her own political talk show on ARD – "Caren Miosga". According to the NDR hosts, however, she should not even assume that she will be off work after the broadcast on Sunday evening. "You're going to broadcast on Sundays and you're still under the illusion that you're having a weekend on Monday, Tuesday," says Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt. This brings him to a conversation with Barbara Schöneberger, who reported on Günther Jauch's experiences.

The cult presenter also had to accept a high workload. "He suffered as a result," Barbara Schöneberger recalls of a dialogue. "That he always has to read everything and know everything?" asks Caren Miosga, who obviously knows exactly what the TV colleague was talking about. Barbara Schöneberger then recounts a snippet of conversation. "'At some point,' he said, 'I thought to myself: I'm too old for that' – and then he paused: 'and too rich.'"

"Günther Jauch"

"Günther Jauch" was a talk show on ARD in which host Günther Jauch discussed political and socially relevant topics with his guests. After the end of the weekly show in November 2015, a follow-up format for 2016 was found with "Anne Will". From January 2024, Caren Miosga will succeed him with the show of the same name.

Günther Jauch is far from "too old" for "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

As Caren Miosga confirms in the "NDR Talkshow", she will soon be facing seven-day working weeks as the host of the political talk show. Günther Jauch put this hard everyday life behind him with the end of his talk show in 2015. But even now, the presenter is still very busy. As early as December 9, 2023, for example, he can be seen in a new episode "Because they don't know what happens!" on RTL.

For "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", the TV star probably feels neither too old nor too rich. After all, he is not thinking about retirement at the moment. Under these circumstances, however, Günther Jauch would still draw a line under "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?". Sources used: "NDR Talkshow" (episode of 8 December 2023)
