Investigators from the Ariel police station in the Judea and Samaria district opened an investigation today (Sunday) against Mueed Shaaban, the Palestinian Authority's minister of the struggle against settlements, after a complaint was filed against him for inciting statements he made after the October 7 massacre.
The investigation was opened after Urey Israel and attorney Avichai Hajabi filed a complaint against Sha'ban for statements he made after October 7. Among other things, the complaint was filed due to statements made by the Palestinian minister during the funeral of terrorists killed during an IDF operation in Tulkarm in which a SWAT soldier Maxim Rezhnikov was killed.
"Unity is the way out of the crisis and it is the way to our freedom. The homeland is the most precious thing we have. There are already thousands of dead martyrs," Sha'ban said at the terrorists' funeral. Who is not ashamed of the tears of their mothers. We must look only at the occupation! Whoever wants otherwise, remove him from our ranks. Let him not attend funerals. Which got out of here. Whoever says otherwise, we'll shoot him."
About a week later, at a rally in support of Gaza held in Tulkarm, Sha'ban said that "today the flags - Fatah flags merged with the flags of Hamas, the Popular Front, Islamic Jihad, the Popular Struggle (Front), and the democratic [Front] and all our factions." "Today, yes, we say out loud, follow me - in the wind, in blood we will redeem you, you Gaza." He also called for the unification of all anti-Israel movements, "Let's all shout together: unity, national unity, Fatah, Hamas, and a popular front."
This is not Shaaban's first entanglement with Israeli law. The Palestinian minister is a former security prisoner who previously served 15 years in prison after being convicted of terrorism offenses. In addition, several months ago Sha'ban was detained after being involved in riots near an Israeli community in Judea and Samaria.

Attorney Avichai Boaron, one of the leaders of the 'Skin of Israel' initiative, said in response to the opening of an investigation against Sha'ban, "We should welcome the decision of the Israel Police to open an investigation against Mu'id Shaaban, but at the same time it is important to remember that this is only a preliminary step. The many voices of incitement voiced by senior Palestinian Authority officials, and their total support for Hamas, must be answered immediately by the law enforcement authorities."
"These voices are the conclusive proof that there is no difference between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, and the State of Israel and the law enforcement authorities must wake up before we see, God forbid, the scenes of the Seventh of October taking place before our eyes in the center of the country as well," the lawyer added. We are confident that the investigation will be swift and efficient, and that the police will decide to prosecute him."
Attorney Avichai Hijabi said in response: "The Israeli police's decision to open an investigation against a senior Palestinian Authority minister is the right decision, which will reveal that there is no difference between senior Hamas and Fatah figures."
