The last poll conducted before the presidential inauguration of Javier Milei leaves surprising data for the stage that is beginning. The context is particular because of the characteristics of the new president and the very bad present of the departing ruling party.

The consulting firm that began to delve into this panorama was Opinaia, a pioneering firm in online measurements and that has just predicted the triumph of La Libertad Avanza in the runoff.

What are some of the striking data from the study carried out by Clarín this Sunday? The numbers left by the Fernández government are among the worst since the return of democracy, the new president generates good economic and political expectations but does not manage to be alone at the top as the leader with the best image balance.

The survey was conducted between November 28 and December 4, with 1,200 cases nationwide and the results were presented with a +/- 3% margin of error.

Key findings

The study presents five main tips/conclusions. They go like this:

- "In terms of public opinion, the context in which Javier Milei comes to the presidency is marked by a strong concern about inflation and a very critical assessment of the economic situation."

- "However, Milei's eventual government generates favorable economic expectations: 50% think that the economy will improve, the highest value in the last 4 years."

- "In tune with this scenario, political expectations are also encouraging and optimistic. About 55% believe that Milei's management will be positive, and that he will be able to stabilize the economy."

- "In terms of governability, more than 65% agree that J. Milei will be able to carry out his government agenda, although it is recognized that he will have difficulties."

- "After the second round of elections, Milei and Juan Schiaretti are the leaders with the best position. Victoria Villarruel and Diana Mondino also have more positive than negative images, although the latter has a lower level of knowledge."

The Key Numbers

The first table of the report goes back a bit, but to ask about the future. How did you feel about the result of the runoff? And there, without standing out, hope predominates over fear, which comes in second place: 36% and 17% respectively.

As for Milei's pure vote, his followers say they supported him seeking a renewal of politics, rather than burying Kirchnerism: 43% and 24% in this case.

Then, the survey makes the most traditional proposals, of main concerns, view of the current situation, economic expectations and images of the leaders.

In a table with multiple answers (several options could be chosen together), inflation, insecurity and poverty are cut as the most urgent problems to be solved: 72%, 58% and 53%.

Then, a resounding number about the departing government: 85% rate the current situation negatively. On those ruins, 50% believe that the economy will improve in the future. There was a notable change in this item after the runoff: point in favor of Milei.
