Hours before the inauguration of Javier Milei as the new president, internal pressure is increasing in La Libertad Avanza (LLA) within the Senate while Peronism redoubles its demand, as the first minority, for a proportional distribution of the commissions as well as pushing for the provisional presidency.

Francisco Paoltroni, appointed provisional president by Milei, publicly denounced a secret plan to prevent him from taking office and appoint in his place Bartolomé Abadala, who was initially going to be head of the LLA bloc and was dethroned before taking office.

The version began to circulate on Thursday after the swearing-in of the elected legislators and the senator for Formosa pointed to the president of the Union for the Homeland bloc, José Mayans, and Deputy Guillermo Montenegro, who accompanied the vice president-elect, Victoria Villarruel, at the beginning of the efforts to disembark in the upper house.

Paoltroni's version was rejected both by the vice president-elect's inner circle and by Mayans' entourage. Strictly speaking, there is still a dispute not only for the provisional presidency of the Senate but also for the distribution of positions and commissions, which Peronism continues to demand a proportional distribution according to the number of legislators that each bloc has, as was the case with the Deputies.

This Saturday, meetings continued among the libertarians to resolve the organizational issues of the swearing-in and the leadership of La Libertad Avanza was bothered by the repercussions of Paoltroni's statement. Villarruel ordered his team not to respond to the accusations of the cattle producer, who had already complained that the vice president had marginalized him from negotiations with the opposition blocs.

"Let's not talk about Paoltroni, there is no intention to grind anyone," a senior legislative source told Clarín. Libertarians did not like the Formosa senator's statements and warned that there are behaviors that "have to be adjusted." "He would have to honor the trust they gave him," they remarked from that space.

In itself, what they question is that the legislator made these statements at a time when they are preparing for Milei's inauguration and when it has not yet been possible to advance a pigeonhole in the negotiation with Mayans, which despite Cristina Kirchner's suggestion, in favor of ceding the provisional presidency of the Senate to the ruling party, He maintains his position that the first minority must be respected.

It is not news that Mayans does not agree with Cristina's position, especially after what happened during the government of Mauricio Macri when they ceded the provisional position to Federico Pinedo. It is said that in one of the talks she had with the former president, the head of the Peronist bench told her: "Cristina, there is no country in the world that does that," in reference to the parliamentary custom of giving the positions to the ruling party.

UxP denies that there is "a personal issue with Paoltroni". "It's not that we reject it, but that the provisional presidency belongs to our bloc," said a Peronist deputy.

With 33 senators, Peronism claims the position because it has 45% of the Chamber and even relativized that it is the second position in the line of succession by arguing that in the event of a problem in the Executive it will be the Legislative Assembly that will determine whether to assume or call elections.

In this sense, Kirchnerism wants to maintain control of the commissions knowing that the libertarians with 7 senators will not be able to have the presidency of all of them, nor can they even have the majority in a commission with the entire bloc present.

For now, there is the possibility that Victoria Villarruel will convene a session for next Wednesday with the intention of having the provisional president and the parliamentary and administrative secretaries sworn in.
