For the association 40 Millions d'automobilistes, this is THE solution to the problems related to low emission zones (LEZs). The French start-up Rétrogaz has just launched the marketing of a kit that allows old diesel vehicles to also run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). According to its designers and the motorists' association, this amendment allows old diesel vehicles to obtain the precious Crit'Air 1 sticker. These air quality certificates, or stickers, rank vehicles from 1 to 5, plus a category reserved for electric vehicles, based on their level of pollution. A classification that then authorises vehicles to drive or not in the famous EPZs.

"There will be a lot of owners of old cars who will not have the means, despite the subsidies, to buy less polluting vehicles," warns Pierre Chasseray, general delegate and spokesperson for the 40 Million Motorists association. Some will drive in the EPZs with fear in their stomachs (68 euros fine for an individual who drives an unauthorized vehicle). With the Rétrogaz system, you will be able to drive in a ZFE for 3,000 euros to install."
