Activists of the Last Generation have smeared a Christmas tree in Nuremberg with orange paint. A mayor is now handing out.

Nuremberg – The Last Generation is always causing a stir with its actions. Most recently, they smeared universities in Bavaria - including Passau and Erlangen - with paint. The activists don't stop at Christmas trees either. In addition to Munich, there was also such an incident in Nuremberg on December 13. "To all appearances, climate activists from the Letzte Generation association are responsible. The police were able to arrest the perpetrators of the action on site," reports Nuremberg's third mayor Christian Vogel (SPD) on Facebook. The city will file a complaint.

Last generation dyes Nuremberg Christmas tree orange - "We were wrong"

"If the ladies and gentlemen of the Last Generation think that their actions will make a positive difference, they are mistaken. The opposite is the case," Vogel writes on his Facebook page. "This shows a deeply undemocratic action that cannot be accepted and that also repels the majority of the citizenry," the politician makes clear. A small group is trying to assert its interests by hook or by crook – "without regard for the people who live in this city."

Climate change does not stop at Nuremberg, Vogel said. But this has been recognized for some time and is acting accordingly. "The transformation of this city into a place that will also withstand the challenges of drought and hot summers is already in full swing," he says, citing an example. He admits that the processes are often tedious and take time, but they are democratic, "and I attach great importance to that."

"Nürnberg-Grinch": Mayor lashes out at Last Generation

"On the other hand, it is anti-social to sully the entrance from the main station through the Handwerkerhof to the Christkindlesmarkt, which thousands of our guests currently want to see and enjoy," Vogel rages. "You can't get the people of Nuremberg on your side with something like that. The police deserve a lot of thanks. Their quick response allows us to hold the perpetrators accountable. The bill will still be sent to the 'Nuremberg Grinch'," he assures.

Vogel receives praise for his announcements: "These are clear words. This should be followed by action," someone commented, and another person said: "Don't talk much. Charge them a hefty bill and file a complaint for damage to property." "What a disservice these 'activists' do to the cause, to society and to the people, who rightly bear the designation 'activist', the former usually do not understand," is the opinion of another person.

But not everyone likes the Facebook post: "The intention of the people is the right one, the means are certainly completely wrong. Exposing them to such bashing fuels a mood that repeatedly leads to acts of violence. I would like to see communication significantly defused, things clarified on a legal basis and then work on cooperation again, which is sorely needed in these times." (came)
