Grünwald – Many people may struggle with the idea of writing a book. Sandra Diemer (40) from Grünwald promptly turned this wish into reality. The 40-year-old also designed it, organized an editing service, immersed herself in the world of the writer, met other authors and refueled self-confidence: "My debut not only became a bestseller, I also moved directly into the finals of the Amazon Kindle Storyteller competition in autumn 2022."

Before her first publication, she wrote diaries in full, and so she still proceeds intuitively today, without first working out a plot down to the smallest detail. Sandra Diemer (40) dealt with her own separation and divorce in the form of a non-fiction novel in her first book "Read yourself happy – words open hearts".

In Grünwald for ten years

Originally from Heidelberg, the writer moved to Munich in 2007 and has been living in Grünwald for ten years now. "I lived with my husband in absolute luxury, in a house built by a designer-architect." Nothing was missing. She had no financial worries, a domestic help came twice a week, and handbags and shoes from Louis Vuitton and jewelry from Tiffany & Co. and other luxury brands accompanied Sandra Diemer every day. "And despite all this luxury, I was unhappy with my life." She suddenly found herself in a set-up that she didn't feel was hers.

The separation followed, and the now 40-year-old moved together with her two children into a three-room apartment in Grünwald. "In terms of living standards, it was actually and also perceived as a drastic social "decline", at the same time she perceived the step as a liberation. She had to find her way in this new phase of her life, to completely reorient herself after many years of marriage. In Preysingstraße in Haidhausen, Sandra Diemer first opened a café called "Eat yourself happy."

Due to Corona: First project not particularly successful

The Corona period and homeschooling ended this entrepreneurial attempt quite abruptly. The young entrepreneur tried to hold on to it for another six months with to-go offers, short openings, until she drew the consequences and closed the café. But the next idea was already germinating and the name is already based on the café's first project.

In "Read Yourself Happy" she talks openly about separation and new beginnings in order to give women in a similar situation courage to break away from an unfulfilled marriage or partnership. "In my book, I practically exemplify how you can live happily on your own again after many years of marriage."

Book now has a lot to do with self-discovery

Many women approached the Grünwald woman and revealed how they really feel. This was an eye-opener and led to the realization of how many people live in a farce and how few are really happy about it. Especially during Corona times, she was told how exhausting it would be if her husband was always at home. The book has a lot to do with self-discovery, how to get to the point where you really find yourself beautiful. In her opinion, the filters on Instagram, all the adhesive eyelashes have nothing to do with beauty. There is no instruction in the book on how to break free or separate and become happy, but apparently many women feel that they are being spoken from the soul. The feedback she gets expresses that. She has arrived in the bestseller ranking on Amazon, where she gets visibility and feels encouraged to continue writing.

Full-time author from now on

At the same time, she is aware that patience is necessary: "Something like this takes time, you don't build a business in a year." When she felt the success, she threw herself into her new professional identity as a full-time author. She always liked to read: psychological thrillers, crime novels, romance novels. In this sense, she does not want to make it too easy for the reader and stimulate his imagination. The manuscripts are written every day, which are gradually sent to the editing department. The writer tries to write 2000 to 3000 words a day, spread over the whole day.

Next, at the end of January, will be published "Datteleis und Sternensparkle", a German-Israeli novel. Her first vacation after the breakup had taken her alone to Israel. She was looking for a place where the divorced couple has no memory, came to Tel Aviv and experienced the trip of a lifetime. So she went there a few more times and ended up finding her current partner here.
